Research Experience

• Research assistant at Family and Children Experiencing Success (FACES) Lab at New York University. Part of the administrative team. Direct contributions to the Myndlift, behavioral parent training project. 

• “Resiliency of Children from Homes of Familial Abandonment.” Graduate student literature review targeting abandonment in childhood and its connection to subsequent factors of resiliency. Current research findings are blended with the anecdotal experiences of individuals from diverse multicultural backgrounds.

• “Mindfulness-Based Intervention in a Low-Income Community.” Program and evaluation research at the graduate level. Mindfulness based stress relief program designed and implemented to increase action steps towards home stability for individuals in a low income, urban area. The research project included a data driven evaluation and plan for dissemination.

• “Depression in Childhood,” Graduate thesis in educational psychology analyzing treatment of childhood depression within the school system, using a three-tiered model and response to intervention approach.

Experience


Mental Health Counselor

Provided individual counseling, long term psychotherapy, and therapeutic interventions for a variety of clients from diverse multicultural backgrounds. Conducted assessments and consultations. Provided support for issues connected to social awareness, cultural belonging, time and stress management, resilience, coping skills, conflict resolution, wellness, and self-care.

School Based Counselor

Provided school wide mental health counseling services. Including culturally informed and trauma informed care. Responsible for individual and school-wide crisis intervention. Collaborated with school administrators, developed school-wide mental health initiatives focused on teacher wellness, cyberbullying, and COVID mental health response.

Emergency Care

In association with New York University and New York Office of Mental Health, I provided emotional support and crisis intervention for New York City residents and first responders during the initial COVID crisis. Provided brief supportive counseling to callers of the COVID emotional support helpline; those experiencing an emotional crisis connected to COVID and quarantine; utilized the referral database to provide referral assistance to callers; attended all crisis, mental health, and first responder training, and managed interaction with clients to make sure the appropriate level of care is provided.

Learning and Behavior Consultant

Supported the educational advancement of students through learning, behavioral, and social skills development. Services provided for students of all ages and abilities, preschool, elementary, high school, and college. Development of curriculum and educational tools; assessed the effectiveness of interventions through progress monitoring tools and data-based decision making; interpreted and communicated complex, technical assessment data in an understandable format. Facilitated technical writing, including mental health & educational research and reports.

Behavior Interventionist

Provided applied behavior analysis protocol to special needs students, applied behavior reduction and skill development protocols, and collected and recorded behaviorally based data. Communicated with teachers, parents, and caregivers regarding student progress. Satisfied ongoing training and development. Adhered to organizational policies and procedures, and kept strict confidentiality.

Toastmaster’s Speaking and Leadership Program – President

Within our chapter of the Toastmaster’s leadership program I trained in the skills of public speaking, leadership, communication, listening, presentations, impromptu speaking, critical thinking, giving feedback, organization, and time management. 

Serving as the president of our Toastmaster’s club I gained experience in teaching and mentoring club members, achieved certification as an advanced communicator, and competed in the Toastmasters International Speech Competition achieving 1st place winner for our Area Division.
